Washington State Referendum Measure No. 101
I thought CBC didn’t allow for signature gathering within the church.
This is true, as an overarching principle. This is only the second time leadership has permitted this due to the specific nature of this issue targeting families. The first was April 2012 for Referendum 74 which sought to overturn a recent law permitting same-sex marriages.
Why is CBC allowing this activity this time?
The new state law (ESSB 5599) is in conflict with the Biblical teachings that Parents are the primary authority in raising their children. This law allows the state to keep minors from their parents when they are seeking “gender affirming treatment” or abortions. We believe this is not the role of the state to address with minors, but of the parents with their children.
Won’t this put minors/children in danger of abusive parents?
Current state law already has protections in place to safeguard minors from being returned to an unsafe household situation.
Doesn’t this put CBC in the middle of politics?
This issue is not a “red” (Republican), or “blue” (Democrat) issue. The Leadership of CBC sees this as a Biblical issue.
This will cause CBC to be seen as anti-LGTBQ+
While the state has made the definition of this issue about “protecting” minors seeking “gender affirming treatment”, the Leadership of CBC is focusing purely on the fact that parents are being removed from their biblical role as a family.
